2. JOB PURPOSE
Lecturer I denotes academic maturity, clinical leadership and mentorship capacity.
At this level, the Nursing Science academic is expected to own courses, lead clinical instruction, mentor junior staff, and translate nursing research into practice and policy, especially within African health systems.
The job purpose is to deliver high-quality independent teaching and clinical leadership, lead impactful nursing research and innovation, mentor junior staff, and contribute strategically to institutional governance and accreditation.
3. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Teaching & Clinical Leadership:
- Coordinate core Nursing Science courses and clinical modules.
- Lead OSCEs, simulations and clinical assessments.
- Supervise undergraduate research and professional development activities.
2. Research, Publications & Innovation:
- Lead or co-lead nursing research and quality-improvement initiatives.
- Publish in reputable peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences.
- Develop innovations in nursing education, patient care or community health.
3. Leadership & Institutional Service:
- Mentor Assistant Lecturers and Lecturer II academics.
- Serve on School and University committees, accreditation teams and policy groups.
- Uphold and promote professional standards of nursing education and practice.
4. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
PhD in Nursing Science (or Senate-approved cognate).
Valid NMCN practising licence.
A minimum of four (4) publications, in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
Evidence of clinical guidelines, educational innovations or community health impact is an advantage.
4.1 Academic Qualifications (Mandatory)
PhD in Nursing Science (or Senate-approved cognate).
Valid NMCN practising licence.
5. MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
At least three (3) years as Lecturer II (or equivalent).
Active membership of recognised national or international nursing professional bodies.
